I really appreciate you letting me know that my work on the last project left some room for improvement, as I value the opportunity to further intensify the effort I can put in, above and beyond work (and vacation) hours. I know that management largely considers the project a failure, and I am grateful that it was you, and not I, that was the one tasked with making such difficult macro decisions on the expansive direction, limited budget and under-served staffing of the project, because otherwise I'd feel like I'd let myself down twice. I'd love to set up some time for a post-mortem on any detailed failures of the project so that I can pointedly own up to higher ups where my own fault lies, based on what I was asked to do under the constraints of the project's setup, which, contrary to my abilities, takes such incredible skill to handle well.
